My Church Home

(author unknown)

This is my home, my church home,

The place where I belong,

Where friends and loved ones join with me,

In praise and Prayer and song.

This is my home, my church home,

With doors that open wide,

Where I can come when cares beset,

And know love waits inside.

This is my home, my church home,

My heaven from the storm.

Where friendly hands reach out to me,

Gracious and true and warm.

This is my home, my church home,

Oh, that I could share,

The strength and love and peace and joy,

With all folks everywhere.

Ordinary Time

Ordinary Time is the liturgical season that occurs outside of major holy cycles like Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter. The name comes from the Latin ordinalis, meaning "numbered." It refers to the counted Sundays of the year - symbolized by the color green - and focuses on spiritual growth and daily discipleship.

Ordinary Time is broken into two distinct periods in the church:

The season after epiphany which begins in January after the Epiphany and runs until the day before Ash Wednesday. This time emphasizes Jesus' early ministry and evangelism.

The season after Pentecost which is the longest block of Ordinary Time, spanning from late spring (after Pentecost) to late fall, right before Advent begins. This period is dedicated to living out faith, nurturing new disciples, and participating in God's ongoing work in the world.
